Exploring the possibilities of generative AI FOr music
Raidio Tony is the artist name for Tony Cupolo, a 35+ year electrical engineer now based in Florida. His music draws inspiration mainly from 80s rock and 90s pop. Dave Rose of Deep South Entertainment, a 25 year veteran of the music industry, says "What stands out about Tony’s music is the intention behind it ; it’s not just AI for the sake of novelty, it’s storytelling through a new lens." Tony recently released a new album, R2025B, featuring live acoustic versions of the R2024B studio tracks.
Tony’s musical journey began in kindergarten with classical piano training, which continued through sixth grade while he also sang in choir and played trumpet in the school band. After his family moved to Florida, his classical training continued — this time (without a sound proof basement) on acoustic guitar. By high school and college he was writing and gigging with friends on guitar and keyboards, before stepping away from music for three decades.
That changed when his longtime friend and bandmate, Jason Stafford, reached out and pulled him back into songwriting. Within a year, Tony was finishing his debut album R2024A — at age 57. A key part of that return was discovering generative AI for music, first through Jay, who had turned to AI tools after a stroke limited his playing. Inspired by that, Tony embraced AI as a collaborator in his own process, now weaving it into the majority of his recordings as both a creative spark and a production partner.
